Top 10 Cats from the 2012 Season

After another massive haul of ‘ton plus’ catfish from the lower reaches of the Ebro river in 2012, here are the biggest 10 to be boated this season:

Joint 10th. Youngster Lucas Carter took this magnificent 165 lber during a tough week in late July. The fish had been largely off the feed in scorching hot conditions but this monster took a ‘brownie’ fished close to weeds and saved the trip!

Joint 10th. Dan Clemens and friends enjoyed a superb week in early June with plenty of big fish action, including 5 cats over the 140lb mark. It was Dan who stole the show with this beauty of 165lb, which took a large mullet fished on ‘big cat alley, and gave a tremendous scrap…

9. Roy Redhead enjoyed a fantastic first ever trip to the Ebro in early October this year, breaking the 160lb mark on two separate occasions! Roy had already bagged a 163 earlier in the week when this monster of 166lb accepted a small mullet presented in brown water down in Eucalyptus bay on the lower Delta section.

8. Another first timer to the Ebro to bag a Jumbo cat was Norfolk based Wayne Grady, who snared a 169lber in the Tyland section on a two day April stint, his first fish of the trip and quite an initiation to the lower Ebro!

7. Cumbrian pike specialist Mark Billington landed a superb 169lb on his first ever session on the Ebro in early July, and it was one of the best fights ever witnessed. The boat had to follow the fish after a spectacular run from this monster, caught in the Wires section.

6. Miklos Pintor from Hungary hit the jackpot in late February with the capture of a 171lber from the Campredo section, the fish accepted an eel fished static on a hotspot in cold water conditions.

5. Another early season fish comes in at number 5, caught by Andy Pillinger in late March, a superb 172lb specimen. The fish took a mullet fished in the shallows of Mozzie Bay after we discovered a cluster of cats laid up in a tight area and anchored in.

4. A fantastic mid winter trip saw Jack Walker boat a monster of 173lb in Dacember. This heavyweight accepted a mullet fished in a shallow water location up stream of Amposta, and was caught on Jack’s first ever Ebro session!

A winter whacker for Jack

3. Another first time visitor to enjoy a tremendous trip was Alex Jones, who bagged 4 ton plus cats during a productive mid March week. The biggest was caught centre channel over a shallow plateau well downstream of Amposta, and weighed in at a mammoth 175lb.

2. Malcolm Law hit a whacker of 176lb fishing deep water in the ‘Tyland’ area during a late June trip. The fish gave Malc a severe workout as he crow-barred it up from the depths!

1. Biggest of the season in 2012 goes to regular customer Andy Phillips who enjoyed a fantastic early April trip, landing fish of 143, 163 and finally 183lb, all taken on mullet from a well known hotspot in the Campredo area. Well done to Andy for a well deserved fish!
