This was a memorable initiation on the Ebro for 1st time visitor Rob Read. The fish was hooked within 15 minutes of starting on the first day of the holiday and went like a train! Caught on a known hotspot where the river drops off on the Amposta section.
John is a regular catcher of 100lbers but this fish topped his personal best on the 4 April. Caught on mullet fished centre channel in one of our favourite locations, ‘mozzie bay’.
This catch was memorable for the speed of the take which was unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed before, with the first run more reminiscent of a tarpon on the Florida Keys. The fight was the best witnessed from a Leer fish with some incredible runs and surface action. Colin Turnbull was the delighted angler and the fish weighed in at 36lb.
This was a strange session with 2 Leer Fish caught in the same day. The first was caught by Tony Lockwood and took a small carp which was fished close to the gunnel. The sea predator actually chased the bait to the surface before nailing it giving us a great visual indication, and tipped the scales to 35lb.
Perhaps one of the most shocking captures in all our time on the Ebro was when regular client Martin Filer latched into this impressive specimen during a session in the Delta section of the river. Winter time is great for the big cats here on the lower Ebro, and today’s session was no exception with Mick Riddell bagging this lump of 151lbs. The fish beats Mick’s previous best of 135lb which he caught with us back in March 2007. A superb opening session for the 2009 season with 2 100lb cats falling to the rod of regular customer Ricky Smith. The river is currently running high and coloured with cold water conditions (around 8.5 degrees celsius,) but the cats are still prepared to accept live baits fished tight in the margins out of the main current.
