Drifting with small carp down the margins of Isla de Gracia we received a very welcome surprise when Adrian Cook hit into this magnificent Leer Fish of 53lb. This is quite a specimen, given that the listed world record for this species is given as 61lb! The take was quite spectacular as the carp came up in the water very close to the boat and the huge flash of silver… Read More »Huge 53lb Leer Fish close to record proportions!
Fly fishing fanatics Marc and Henrik Skovby from Denmark embarked on an ambitious project with us over a week in early July – to prove it is possible to capture a Catfish on the Fly. We knew the task would be difficult at the start of the week, and the guys accepted that even a single capture of a Siluro on this method would represent success. The Flies which were… Read More »Fly Fishing for Catfish? Danish anglers prove it’s possible!
In honour of my Dad Bryce’s 70th birthday we had planned a special ‘ once in a life time’ fishing adventure, and after extensive research into various locations we opted for Paradise Fishing Lodge in Panama. The journey was from Madrid to Panama City (around 10 hours on the plane), with an over night stay in Panama City. Unfortunately we were too jet lagged to take in the sights and… Read More »Al’s Panama blue water fishing trip, December 2013
The wait is finally over as the Ebro Delta produced it’s first fish in excess of 200lb with Lee Wilkinson being the delighted client to smash through the barrier with a 218lb whacker! The river has been in extreme flood condition, and with the regular slipways under water and cordoned off, we were forced into launching the boats at the estuary and heading upstream into the fishing grounds of the… Read More »200lb barrier finally smashed by massive Ebro Delta Catfish!!
Bottom fishing with pieces of legered chicken carcass has been producing some excellent results down on the lower Ebro, with an ever growing number of 100+ Catfish being tempted on static bottom baits fished in amongst weedy areas. With rule changes regarding the use of live baits now being implemented, a switch in tactics to the static method has been working particularly well with some jumbo sized Catfish happy to… Read More »No Cluckin’ Way! Cooling down here now but some good fishing over the last 3 days with half a dozen Catfish caught by Bill Benham and Andy Cissell on a long weekend break. Most of the fish were small unfortunately, with quite a few in the 30 – 50 lb class, but there was one which made it into 3 figures, a 103lber caught by Bill!
We’re winding down now for the end of the 2018 season but here’s some nice shots from last week with Nathan Willet battling it out with a hard running 126lb PB hooked upstream of Amposta!
Somewhat patchy period of Catfishing at the beginning of September this year, with unsettled weather and dropping temperatures not particularly helpful. The best fish of late have been caught by Ross Thompson, a 128 which took a bait fished close to the marginal weed-beds at Deltebre, whilst there was also a 126 for Steve Walton when a legered carcass was picked up on the mouth of a muddy inlet also… Read More »Lower Ebro Catfishing…. Action has slowed down a little this week, perhaps owing to some unsettled stormy weather and a small drop in the water temperature. Despite this, there have been a few rewards on offer for perseverance. Keith McGreevy got his trip off to a great start when he bagged a hard running 118lber which picked up a legered chicken carcass in a deep margin north of Amposta. There was also a… Read More »Lower Ebro Catfishing…. Latest Catch Reports…. Late August 2018
August continues to produce some behemoth Catfish from the lower Ebro and it’s been a successful 3 day stint for Ian Quinn with his son Max. Although at times there were long waits between bites, it’s all worthwhile when the fish are of the highest calibre. Max was given a superb fight from a powerful fish which turned out to be a 181lber, one of the biggest fish of the… Read More »Lower Ebro catfishing…. Latest Catch Reports…. Late August 2018
What a magnificent debut trip to the Ebro for Paul Richardson and Nigel Chapman! The first day of the trip gave them a gentle introduction to Catfishing with 4 fish in the 30 – 55lb category. The next two days were the ‘main event’ however, with Paul bagging a 170, only to be pipped by Nige the following day with a 172! All fish were taken on Chicken bottom baits,… Read More »Lower Ebro Catfishing…. Latest Catch Reports…. Mid August 2018
After a frustrating few days of catching plenty of small / medium sized fish, it was a relief to get back into the heavy weights last week. Martin Eyres’ party of 4 enjoyed some outstanding fishing with a great haul of 18 moggies in 4 day’s fishing – including 4 over the ton. Some changeable, stormy weather had dipped the water temperature slightly and this seemed to have the desired… Read More »Lower Ebro Catfishing…. Latest Catch Reports…. Early August 2018
More excellent fishing in the super hot summer conditions for Shane Rousell with his sons Archie & Dan. The guys have bagged a great haul of 9 fish in 3 days on the boat, with the biggest of them a lunker of 163lb caught by Archie in the Delta section. Shane also broke into 3 figures with a 105 and also took an 89lber. Dan just missed out on a… Read More »Lower Ebro Catfishing…. Latest Catch Reports…. Early August 2018
The Catfishing is excellent here on the lower Ebro at the present time with the majority of sessions producing 3 figure fish. Murray Pratt and Javier Ibanez have enjoyed a productive 2 day stint with 4 fish including trebles of 151 for Murray (the fateful fish which went crazy on the boat leading to a hook in Al’s leg ????) and 124 for Javi (his first ever fish!). Chicken carcass fished… Read More »Lower Ebro Catfishing…. Latest Catch Reports…. Late July 2018
An eventful trip for Andy Bainbridge & John Graham over the last 3 days, with John stealing the show with a 150lber which picked up a chicken carcass right at the start of the third session at Amposta. Andy endured some horrendous luck with two big fish hitting snags on the bottom resulting in the loss of both of them in the Delta section, and had to settle for Cats… Read More »Lower Ebro Catfishing…. latest Catch reports….
