Cooling down here now but some good fishing over the last 3 days with half a dozen Catfish caught by Bill Benham and Andy Cissell on a long weekend break. Most of the fish were small unfortunately, with quite a few in the 30 – 50 lb class, but there was one which made it into 3 figures, a 103lber caught by Bill!
We’re winding down now for the end of the 2018 season but here’s some nice shots from last week with Nathan Willet battling it out with a hard running 126lb PB hooked upstream of Amposta!
Somewhat patchy period of Catfishing at the beginning of September this year, with unsettled weather and dropping temperatures not particularly helpful. Action has slowed down a little this week, perhaps owing to some unsettled stormy weather and a small drop in the water temperature. Despite this, there have been a few rewards on offer for perseverance. August continues to produce some behemoth Catfish from the lower Ebro and it’s been a successful 3 day stint for Ian Quinn with his son Max. Although at times there were long waits between bites, it’s all worthwhile when the fish are of the highest calibre. What a magnificent debut trip to the Ebro for Paul Richardson and Nigel Chapman! The first day of the trip gave them a gentle introduction to Catfishing with 4 fish in the 30 – 55lb category. After a frustrating few days of catching plenty of small / medium sized fish, it was a relief to get back into the heavy weights last week. More excellent fishing in the super hot summer conditions for Shane Rousell with his sons Archie & Dan. The guys have bagged a great haul of 9 fish in 3 days on the boat, with the biggest of them a lunker of 163lb caught by Archie in the Delta section. The Catfishing is excellent here on the lower Ebro at the present time with the majority of sessions producing 3 figure fish. Murray Pratt and Javier Ibanez have enjoyed a productive 2 day stint with 4 fish including trebles of 151 for Murray (the fateful fish which went crazy on the boat leading to a hook in Al’s leg ????) and 124 for Javi (his first ever fish!). An eventful trip for Andy Bainbridge & John Graham over the last 3 days, with John stealing the show with a 150lber which picked up a chicken carcass right at the start of the third session at Amposta.
