200lb barrier finally smashed by massive Ebro Delta Catfish!!

The wait is finally over as the Ebro Delta produced it’s first fish in excess of 200lb with Lee Wilkinson being the delighted client to smash through the barrier with a 218lb whacker!

The river has been in extreme flood condition, and with the regular slipways under water and cordoned off, we were forced into launching the boats at the estuary and heading upstream into the fishing grounds of the lower Delta. The fishing conditions were certainly testing, with thousands of gallons of brown snow melt water piling down the channel from the north. But this did not prevent this monstrous fish from picking up a small bait fished on a known hot-spot downstream of La Cava.

The fish hit the main flow in the channel and set off on a blistering run which threatened to empty the spool of line, and the boat had to give chase. After an arm aching battle, with a few nervous moments, the landmark Catfish was finally boated well over a mile down river from where it was hooked. Once on the boat, and with the weight established, it was time for the celebrations to begin..

This massive Cat of 218lb shows it’s enormous front end proportions, and carries the weight all the way down to the tail

Lee looks visibly exhausted after a hell of a scrap!
